Ice Climbing dates!
TBA - intro clinic Nov 10th
What's this all about?
Ever since AOG opened the staff has invited others to join them ice climbing. This is not an AOG trip and we do not charge for this as it is not a guided trip. Safety is up to you and you will be responsible for yourself.
But the staff won't give you a set of sharp pointy ice tools and say" have fun...". As a collective group everyone going will help set ropes and create a safe environment in which to try out this great sport.
How does all this work?
-People typically will leave on a Thursday evening and climb Friday and Saturday with possibly getting in a quick run up on Sunday before heading home.
-Carpooling is up to you as you will have contact with others going via email.
-Gear can be rented at Apex Outdoor Gear. Everyone usually chips in and/or shares their gear. Except some personal items like boots, crampons, snowshoes and harness. Talk to the staff at AOG for more information on gear and what clothing will be needed.
-Lodging can be on your own. Mark usually will make arrangements for those willing to share rooms at a local establishment.
-Food is on your own.
-The group will decide where to climb for that day. Depending on ice conditions the group may have to hike in a ways (usually up hill) to reach the climb. Ice is an ever changing medium and the climb may not be in good shape or safe. Hiking out or to another climb may happen unexpectedly.
-Know that climbing can be a dangerous sport and can be physically demanding. Be prepared. Everyone going will give you as much help as possible. The goal is for new people to experience something unique and beautiful. No one wants you to have a bad time, so ask questions.
This is not a guided trip. There is no charge.
Safety is up to you.
